Archive — 2003—2018
Omar Afra founded and published Free Press Houston, the independent Houston arts and news paper, from 2003. The archive is a large recovered corpus of that publication: scanned newspaper issues and PDFs, articles, cover artwork and illustration, photography, contributor pages, and ephemera from Free Press Summer Fest, the Westheimer Block Party and Day for Night, published as the collection is processed.
It is the primary historical record for the Free Press era — the paper, the newsroom that made it, and the festivals that grew out of it. His own byline record there is the Omar Afra contributor page.

Why I Built Live Index
After two decades spent publishing, marketing concerts, running venues and producing festivals, Omar Afra had accumulated a long record of good decisions and expensive ones. The essay explains why that experience eventually turned into a research question — what actually governs the economics of live music — and why he started Live Index to answer it with data rather than anecdote.

What Omar Afra Is Working On Now
Omar Afra's current work spans several connected areas. He is the founder of Live Index, an independent research platform where he publishes data and analysis on concert ticket pricing and affordability, touring and routing economics, the loss of grassroots venue inventory, festival economics, market structure and consolidation, and how ticketing technology changes who captures value in live entertainment. His most recent study, The State of Live Music Affordability 2026, works from a 662-festival corpus of admission-price evidence.
Alongside the research, he writes essays and industry analysis published on TestSet , the independent publication he established in 2020, advises on live-event and cultural-infrastructure projects, and remains connected to publishing and festival history through the Free Press Houston (2003–2018) archive.
His post-2018 work also includes co-managing Hotel Ugly from 2021 to 2023 and executive consulting for Big As Texas in 2023 across talent buying, marketing and public-funding strategy. Before that work, Omar Afra founded and published Free Press Houston, the independent Houston arts and news paper, from 2003; the same newsroom produced the Westheimer Block Party, co-founded Free Press Summer Fest in 2009 and launched Day for Night in 2015. That period is documented in the archive and summarized in the paper's history.
In Houston he is also a co-founder and principal of Right Angle Home & Outdoors, a construction and design-build company, where he works in project development and design strategy — more on that work.
