Omar Afra's Festivals

    Day for Night

Day for Night was a groundbreaking music and immersive art festival founded by Omar Afra in Houston, Texas. Launched in 2015 at Silver Street Studios in Sawyer Yards, the festival moved in 2016 into the former Barbara Jordan Post Office — a massive decommissioned federal building — creating a setting unlike any other festival in the world.

Day for Night was built on Omar Afra's conviction that music festivals should be more than concerts in a field. He commissioned large-scale digital art installations, light environments, and interactive technology pieces that ran alongside performances by artists including Nine Inch Nails, Solange, Aphex Twin, St. Vincent, Tyler the Creator, Björk, and New Order.

In 2017, Consequence of Sound named Day for Night its Festival of the Year, writing that it offered "once-in-a-lifetime experiences." The festival was also featured extensively by Pitchfork, the Houston Chronicle, Houstonia Magazine, and ABC13.

    Free Press Summer Fest

Free Press Summer Fest (FPSF) was Houston's largest independent music festival, co-founded by Omar Afra. What started as a grassroots community event grew into a multi-day festival drawing tens of thousands of attendees to Eleanor Tinsley Park along Buffalo Bayou.

Omar Afra's vision for FPSF was rooted in his belief that Houston deserved a music festival that reflected the city's diversity. The festival was distinguished by its commitment to showcasing local Houston talent alongside national headliners — a philosophy that earned praise from the Houston Chronicle and led to Omar Afra being named one of the Houston Business Journal's 40 Under 40.
