Who is Omar Afra?

Omar Afra is a Houston-based publisher, festival producer, researcher and business operator. He founded Free Press Houston and helped build Free Press Summer Fest and Day for Night. Since the newspaper ceased publishing in 2018, his work has included independent publishing through Testset, artist management, festival talent buying and consulting, sustainable outdoor construction through Right Angle Home & Outdoors, and live-music economic research through Live Index. His historical live-event work includes Day for Night and Free Press Summer Fest (FPSF) . Those projects earned national coverage for their programming and production.

He has been married to his wife, Andrea Afra, for 25 years, and they have two sons, Lukas and Khalil. Outside of his professional life, Omar is an avid home cook who enjoys grilling and experimenting with different styles of shish kabob, a weekly ritual that reflects his love of tradition, hospitality, and bringing people together around food.
